Intro

Walking the Camino Francés in winter is a different pilgrimage: quiet trails, cold mornings, and far fewer beds. Most albergues close between November and February — but not all of them. This list brings together the albergues that plan to open this winter, from Roncesvalles to Pedrouzo, with their phone numbers, whether they take reservations, and the exact dates each one closes over Christmas and the season.

The list is compiled from APRINCA’s annual winter acogida list (forecast dated 1 November 2026), the reference Spanish hospitalero associations use each year. APRINCA updates it as the season goes on, and so will we — but winter opening is weather, health and circumstance, so always phone ahead before counting on a bed, above all around Christmas and in the smallest villages.

Three things to know before you plan around this list:

  • “Booking required” means it. Several winter albergues open only, or mainly, for pilgrims who have reserved — and a few open only for groups or private rooms in the deep-winter weeks.
  • Christmas closures are real. Many albergues close some or all of 23 December – 7 January. Check the dates under each name.
  • Galicia’s Xunta albergues are not individually listed. APRINCA notes it has no closure information for the Xunta (public) network, so between Ruitelán and Triacastela this list is silent rather than complete — the Xunta albergues generally stay open year-round, but confirm locally. From Triacastela onward, the private albergues below are listed as normal.
